One of the quirks in Windows 11, are the bazillion ways of changing the language, region and keyboard settings. From the (good?) old control panel, to the language & region settings, but still, there are more to discover.
While I mix between US and Scandinavian keyboard (physical layout), I also swap the logical layout to meet the regional letters like æ, ø and å. The quick and easy way to do that is of course pressing win + space. Although, every now-and-then, it reverts back to the default layout that i determined by the language of the OS.
While browsing the legacy control panel, the newer settings pane “Language & region” I only add languages, features added to the language and keyboards to the added languages:

However, one setting that is less spoken of, is the ability to sett the default keyboard – regardless of OS settings! In the settings app, navigate to Time & language
> Typing
> Advanced keyboard settings
. They A shortcut for this is found in the new ms-settings commandlet.
Open “Run” by pressing Win + R Type: ms-settings:typing |
Then hit “Advanced keyboard settings”:

In this menu you may choose what keyboard layout that specific app window should use, and if you want to override the default in the OS language list!
